Burnham Rugby Clubs Annual Dinner Dance and Awards night was a tremendous success, as the Club celebrated its 40th year in style at the Royal Corinthian. With almost all the 1st Team Captains throughout the Clubs history present and many of its past Presidents the evening was a full house, as the Club welcomed its guest former England Captain and scrum-half Nigel Melville.

In addition to the main and entertaining speech from Nigel Melville, there were many short snippets from former Captains, of their more funny and memorial moments as members of the Club.

Club President Alex Knapton, then gave brief talk of his time as player at the Club, before a historical moment when he concluded with a very special award from the Club to one of the Club founders, and still stalwart member of the Club, Warwick Bridge, with a Trophy titled “The Warwick Bridge Trophy”, to be awarded in the future by Warwick Bridge, to whom ever he chooses worthy to receive it in future years.

Then came the main event of the evening, the seniors awards, with the first being for the 1st Team Player of the Year, which went to wing forward Stuart Pinch, swiftly followed by the 2nd Team Player of the Year the ever adaptable Andrew Oliver. The most improved player was awarded to Centre Ross Sanderson, who has improved with every game, while his brother Perry Sanderson, who plays Prop-Forward was awarded Grafter Cup as the Best Tight Five Player of the year. The Vice Presidents Shield was awarded to Alan Pitcher, who though the season proved himself to be an equally able player both in the forwards and backs. The Club Shield, which was awarded by Club Chairman Joel Tunbridge, was presented to Angela Mahoney for all of her work and time promoting and developing the Youth Section of the Club.

The Club would like to thank all those involved in making the evening run smoothly, and notably Robert Blunden and Jenny Blunden who dealt with the bulk of the administration and make it such a hugely successful event.

All players and members are reminded to attend the Clubs AGM on the 19th June 2006 starting at 8.00pm at the Clubs Headquarters, Dengie Hundred Sports Centre, Millfields, Station Road, Burnham On Crouch, Essex.
