"Dengie 100 Saracens"

Youth Section

Burnham RFC's youth division 'Dengie Saracens' provides training and matches for boys from Under 8 to Under 19. Girls are welcome to play in mixed teams up to the Under 12 age group. After this, boys and girls must play in separate teams and we recommend that girls join the Ladies Rugby Team.

Young players are coached in accordance with the RFU's 'Continuum' which introduces the principles of rugby in stages, according to age. After learning basic ball handling skills, players are introduced progressively to tackling, scrums, line-outs, and to kicking. By the age of 13, they effectively play the full 15-a-side version with duration reduced accordingly.

Burnham Youth Rugby has three distinct groups: Colts, Juniors and Minis.

Colts (U19)

A Colt is a player who is under 19 at the start of the season. Colts train on Tuesday evenings with the seniors and play most matches on Saturdays. For more information contact the Colts coach.

Juniors (U13 to U17)

Training for Juniors takes place on a weekday evening, the day and time depending on availability of coaches for the particular year group. Matches are played on Sunday mornings, usually kicking off at 11.00. For more information download an information sheet and induction pack or contact the junior rugby coach.

Minis/midis (U8 to U12)

Training for Minis takes place from 10.00 to 12.30 approx each Sunday throughout the season (except match days). Matches are also played on Sunday mornings. Start time remains at 10.00 for home matches but players may be asked to arrive earlier for away fixtures. For more information download an information sheet and induction pack or contact the mini rugby chairman.

Child welfare and protection

Burnham Rugby Cluboperates a child protection policy in line with the recommendations of the RFU and the RFUW. You can download Burham's procedures here.
